Grammar Point

A Keyphrase should be a short phrase that brings to mind and helps to remember the information on this frame.
の

nominalizes verbs and adjectives

Verb or Adjective + の

The particle の acts as a pronoun that replaces a noun that has already been mentioned or is understood from context. It is used to avoid repeating the noun and can mean 'one' or 'the one'.

い-Adjective + の

When used after an い-Adjective, の replaces the noun the adjective would normally describe.

I will buy the red one.

な-Adjective + な + の

When used after a な-Adjective, the particle な must be placed between the adjective stem and の.

I want a quiet one.

Verb (Informal form) + の

の can follow a verb in its informal form (present or past) to refer to the person or thing that performs or receives the action.

The one I ate was delicious.

Note

の cannot be used to replace abstract concepts or when the noun being replaced is not a physical object or a specific person.
