Grammar Point

A Keyphrase should be a short phrase that brings to mind and helps to remember the information on this frame.
(っ)きり

only, just

sometimes pronounced ぎり

Verb た form + きり

Used to describe a situation where an action occurred and then nothing has changed since that point. It implies that the expected next action or change never happened.

This construction indicates that after a specific action took place, the resulting state has continued without any further change or subsequent action.

He went out and hasn't come back since.

I haven't seen her since we met last year.

Note

In casual speech, きり is often pronounced as っきり. When used in a negative context to mean 'never since', it is often followed by the negative form of a verb or a state of being.

Noun + きり

Used to indicate a strict limitation on number or quantity, meaning 'only' or 'just'.

Number or Noun + きり

This usage limits the scope to the specific noun or amount mentioned, excluding all other possibilities.

There are only two people in the room.

I only have one thousand yen.

Note

It emphasizes that there is nothing more than the stated amount. When attached to numbers or quantity words, it is sometimes pronounced as ぎり.
