Grammar Point

A Keyphrase should be a short phrase that brings to mind and helps to remember the information on this frame.
ものか

as if (something untrue were actually true), like hell (e.g. "like hell I will")

Verb and い-Adjective + ものか

This formation uses verbs and い-adjectives in their informal, non-past forms to strongly deny a statement or express a strong intention not to do something. It conveys a feeling of definitely not or like hell I will.

Verb + ものか

Attach ものか to the informal, non-past dictionary form of a verb to declare a strong intention not to perform an action.

I will definitely not lose.

い-Adjective + ものか

Attach ものか directly to an informal, non-past い-adjective to strongly deny a characteristic or state.

It is absolutely not delicious.

Note

This grammar point is used to express strong subjective emotion and is often a rhetorical question, meaning the speaker does not expect an answer. It is typically used in spoken Japanese and can sound quite blunt or emotional. Be careful to only use the non-past informal forms.

な-Adjective and Noun + なものか

This formation is used with な-adjectives and nouns by attaching な before ものか. It strongly refutes that something possesses a certain quality or is a certain thing.

な-Adjective + なものか

Attach なものか directly to the stem of a な-adjective, replacing the usual だ or です.

It is definitely not quiet.

Noun + なものか

Attach なものか directly to a noun to strongly deny that someone or something is that noun.

I am absolutely not a child.

Note

Make sure to use な instead of だ before ものか for both nouns and な-adjectives in this construction. It functions similarly to the verb and い-adjective formations by adding a strong emotional denial.
