Sentence 1. もっとも Sentence 2.

A conjunction used to add a qualifying comment or a restriction to the statement immediately preceding it. It signals that while the previous statement is true, there is an exception, a different perspective, or more information that needs to be considered.

Adding a qualification or exception

The speaker makes a general statement and then uses もっとも to introduce a specific condition or exception that clarifies the initial claim.

Note

もっとも is primarily used in formal writing or polite speech. It should not be confused with the adverb 'mottomo' which means 'most' or 'extremely'. When used as a conjunction, it always appears at the beginning of a sentence to provide a counterpoint or clarification to what was just said.
