We've analysed every japanese word, expression, kanji reading, and glyph, and broken them down into interconnected parts to make learning any new concept fast, intuitive and easy!
The Breakdown
Every Japanese concept can be broken down and built up from smaller pieces. Words are made up of specific kanji readings, which have kanji glyphs, which are made up of radicals. By linking these pieces together in your mind, you can build up your knowledge from the ground up, and remember complex words more easily.
Since we've done the work of linking these concepts together, you can learn any word at any time with one click, and we'll automatically teach you the missing pieces, from simplest to most complex, so you can build new knowledge on a solid foundation.
Optimal Recommendations
For the most efficient learning order, we can recommend the next kanji or vocabulary to learn. We've analysed which pieces of the language are most valuable, and by keeping track of what you already know, and what pieces are missing or important, we can recommend the next piece to teach you to maximize efficient learning.
We don't have a set learning order, every recommendation depends on your current knowledge, so feel free to switch back and forth from recommendations, to learning from the wild.
Sentence Mining
With the kanji breakdown desktop app, break down any Japanese on your device and learn from real life. Just one click to add to your learning queue, and we'll automatically add whatever information you're missing!
You can capture any japanese on your device via text selection, screen capture (OCR), or audio transcription.
Use the app's Review Mode on material you've already learned from to test yourself, and even get ahead on your daily reviews!
Flashcards and Spaced Repetition
No need to create your own flashcards, every concept already has one prepared for you! Just add your optional keyphrase and mnemonic story (or use one from the community), and your own sentence context (automatically added with the sentence mining app).
Reviews faster! Stop reviewing the same thing multiple times. When you correctly review a piece, we'll automatically bump up the pieces that make it up on the assumption that you probably also remember them, so the tedious review process can go a little faster!
Keyphrases, Mnemonic Stories and Community Sharing
To remember concepts more easily, create and share keyphrases and mnemonic stories that build each concept up piece by piece. When learning new concepts, search what mnemonic stories and keyphrases other users have shared, or share your own tricks and stories with others, so everyone can learn faster together!
Dictionary and Search
Search our built-in dictionary, use our organized lists, or navigate through our intuitive UI to find related pieces, like words using a certain kanji reading, or kanji containing other kanji pieces, etc.
Sometimes you mistake one kanji for a similar one, or a word for one with a similar reading; easily navigate related words and kanji to find your mistake and learn from it!
